April 2025 – In 1985, a group of college men at the University of Texas had an idea that would change the trajectories of thousands. They began to ask the question, “what if we created a fraternity that did all things for the kingdom of God?” Beta Upsilon Chi was born that year.
40 years later, that one idea in a college library began a movement. BYX is now a fraternity of over 2,700 collegiate men across 39 campuses and 13 states with over 10,000 alumni members.
The Lord used one small seed of faith to create a courageous acceleration of building men.
On April 4th of this year, the Founders, alumni, and national staff returned to where it all started, the University of Texas, to celebrate 40 years since the 1985 founding.
This BYX40 Celebration encapsulated the legacies of the Founding Fathers, alumni, members, and supporters throughout the first 40 years. The event featured a dinner and words from the original founders of BYX.
David Daniels, BYX Founding Father, shared: “BYX was and is a proving ground for men to grow in different areas. For the guy who led worship, for the guy who could speak, for leadership and accountability. It is a place for young men to discover who they are.”
The event also featured a historic moment, the launch of the first educational scholarship for BYX: The Diana & Wendel Weaver Educational Scholarship.
Wendel is an original 1985 founding father of Beta Upsilon Chi (BYX) and a longtime board member. His wife, Diana, played an integral part to the continuation of BYX through her countless efforts, prayers, and support for the organization. Diana’s passions were caring for others through the avenues of nursing and education. Her family was of utmost importance to her, and she believed that “no one is going to love your kids like you do.” Diana went to be with the Lord on August 19th of 2024, after battling cancer.
Wendel and Diana’s legacy will continue to impact generations of BYX men over the next 40 years and beyond.
This is why BYX40 is more than just celebrating 40 years of brotherhood. It is an acknowledgement of the power and glory of Christ over the past four decades, and how He has transformed the lives of college men.
We move forward to the next 40, aiming to launch on more campuses, develop more godly leaders, and expand the kingdom of God. Our vision is that everywhere, every day, BYX men are raising families, leading organizations and strengthening churches to impact our communities for Christ.
This is leading faithfully. This is leading courageously.
