BYX HOUSING — Dwell Together, Reach the Lost

For Beta Upsilon Chi, a fraternity house is the infrastructure for spiritual formation and mission.

Psalm 133:1 says, “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity.” That isn’t poetic sentiment. It’s our operational reality at BYX. Formation accelerates when men share the same table, the same late-night conversations, the same rhythms of life.

We’ve seen this time and time again in BYX Housing.

Our Executive Director of Housing, Jared Lyda, often frames it this way:

“Most of the time whenever I talk about the impact of Greek housing, I just talk about the epidemic of loneliness in the current cultural moment. Think about it — if you live in the BYX house, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll never come home to an empty house…you’re always going to have guys around.”

Lyda says this is essential to Christian discipleship and pursuit of holiness for most college men.

In a generation facing unprecedented isolation, BYX housing provides what business leaders would call a “high-density relational environment.” Shared space becomes shared accountability. Shared meals become shared growth. Casual proximity creates courageous conversations with one another and Greek Row neighbors.

BYX houses are in the middle of Greek Row. This leads to sharing the gospel via worship nights that attract hundreds of students to the front lawns and back yards of every BYX house. It leads to gospel conversations with fellow fraternity members next door. And provides a safe house for young men and women when the partying gets out of hand and they need a place where the men can be trusted.

From a strategic standpoint, housing increases our retention, leadership development, and alumni engagement. From the spiritual standpoint, it ensures no man walks alone. And more fraternity and sorority members encounter the gospel as lived through BYX guys next door.

Brotherhood doesn’t scale accidentally. It’s built — room by room, table by table, life by life.

And when brothers dwell together in unity, the impact compounds long after graduation. You can read more about the missional effect at byx.org/builds
